In the DYNAMED Lab, we firmly believe that diversity is not just a social value but a core scientific strength. We uphold an inclusive environment where discrimination of any kind is not tolerated. Our lab is grounded in the principle that individuals from all backgrounds and identities should have equal opportunities to learn, contribute, and thrive. We see our diversity as a distinct asset that empowers us to tackle complex scientific challenges from multiple perspectives. We are aligned with the U-M College of Engineering (CoE)’s people-centered engineering approach. As a lab, we commit to continuous learning and honest discussions about DEI topics. Alex runs a BME DEI Book Club together with Aaron Morris supported by a CoE DEI Faculty grant, for example, that all lab members are welcome to join. Our commitment to DEI extends beyond our lab space: we aim to bring forward these values in our interactions with the broader academic and research communities.
